Richmond is a village in McHenry County, Illinois, located approximately 65 miles northwest of Chicago. Carpenter William A. McConnell established the first settlement in 1837. The village was named after Richmond, Vermont — the hometown of a first settler — and was officially incorporated in 1872.
A fire on Christmas Eve 1902 destroyed 20 buildings in the village's commercial district. The Lucien Bonaparte Covell House and Memorial Hall are both recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.
